Carbide cutting tool inserts prices cut
at MACH
During the UK's MACH 2008 show, visitors to the LMT Fette stand can buy 30 inserts in one grade and in one chip breaker geometry for just GBP 75.00 - a saving of up to GBP 130.
To celebrate the of LMT Fette Boehlerit division's 75 years in the tooling business, the company announced a 'celebration offer' of the latest Boehlerit Nanolock high performance carbide inserts Visitors the LMT (UK) stand at MACH 2008 can make a single order for 30 inserts in one grade and in one chip breaker geometry for just GBP 75.00 - a saving of up to GBP 130, said LMT

Ceramic coated inserts turn steels at 300m/min
As well as enabling a CNC lathe to turn steels at cutting speeds up to 300m/min, nano-crystalline TiCN ceramic coated inserts offer a longer tool life - up to 50% - compared with coated inserts.
The offer covers three inserts in the Nanolock range, as follows.
* The Steeltec LC215K, an extremely high resistant to temperature insert ideal for high speed non-interrupted cutting.
* The Steeltec LC225K, a universal grade with a heat resistant yellow ceramic top layer, which is ideal for interrupted cuts.

Nano coatings extend thread tap life by 30-50%
A multi-layer nano-structured coatings on taps being used to thread blind or through holes, in steels, heat resistant, stainless and tool steels, extend production life by between 30-50%.
* The LC435D, a high performance stainless steel grade, that incorporates a heat-dissipating Drytec surface for dry cutting cycles.
The LMT (UK) stand will be showing representative products from the 30,000 different items in its portfolio from the six highly specialised tooling manufacturing companies that employ 3,000 people.
The divisions have sales of GBP 215 million and invests some GBP 36 million in product development each year.
A prime example of this development is the Nanolock insert range.
LMT told manufacturingtalk that the insert created a 'first' by reducing the crystallite size of the coating.
In this way, LMT improved the often problematical area of coating adhesion to the carbide insert.
Steeltec LC215K inserts with Nanolock are being run at cutting speeds of over 300m/min and registering a cutting life 50% greater than the conventional inserts they replace.
* Taps - the 'IQ Plus' range of taps from LMT Fette for blind and through tools, that will be on the stand, are able to extend normal production life between 30% and 50% over conventional TiCN coated taps, said LMT.
These gains are owing to an 'intelligent' coating that adapts the tool to the cutting conditions giving a more consistent and predictable process.
The multi-layer nano-structured coating has a highly wear resistant base layer adhered to the substrate material with a softer, but tougher 'IQ Plus' sputter coating that is fused to its surface and adapts to the cutting process through 'micron-compression'.
In effect, this creates a running-in or smoothing of the outer coating reducing the coefficient of friction and therefore the torque required from the machine tool.
In a recent trial against a standard TiCN coated tap, IQ Plus demonstrated an improved life of 44% from 1,800 to 2,600 holes when threading 42CrMo4 steel.
* Induction shrink unit - the latest LMT Bilz ThermoGrip induction shrink unit will also be demonstrated on the stand showing how they are able to maintain a concentricity of 0.003mm TIR (total indicated run-out) between mating toolholder and toolshank providing a balanced, pre-set unit ideal for high speed machining cycles.
