Impulse jet unit prints large characters

Large character impulse jet printer has provided an Italian electrical oven burners builder with a flexible, user-friendly method of printing the necessary variable data onto its cartons.

A Linx IJ600 large character impulse Jet printer is providing Italian manufacturer Riello with a practical solution to its marking problems.

The machine has also reduced costs and has saved warehouse space.

Riello Burners manufactures electric burners for bakery ovens and air conditioning systems.

Based in the Veneto region of Italy, Riello has a company policy that every box has to be marked with the customer logo and specific order details.

Riello used to use pre-printed cartons, but this system was regarded as costly and needed tmassive warehouse storage space that can be difficult to manage.

Riello asked Tradex, distributor of the Linx CIJ, IJ600 and TTO coders and printers in Italy, to provide a solution to this problem.

Tradex suggested the Linx IJ600, a coder capable of printing high resolution codes and text from 1.4 to 70mm high.

The Linx IJ600 gives Riello a flexible, user-friendly method of printing the necessary variable data onto its cartons.

Consequently, the company has reduced its reliance on pre-printed cartons and enabled the use of a single carton design across all customers.

"As Riello has recognised, switching from pre-printing to coding delivers significant savings," commented Riccardo Chersoni, marketing manager of Tradex.

"Not only can the company avoid the high costs of pre-printing but, as less warehouse space is required, the cost of fire insurance is also likely to be less".

* About the Linx IJ600 - the Linx IJ600 is specially designed to deliver large-format high resolution codes.

The self-cleaning printhead, robust build quality and IP65-rated stainless steel enclosure make the IJ600 suitable to work in difficult environments that experience high thermal variations and dirt content.

The printer has high application flexibility: it can print text, logos, images and barcodes on cardboard, wood, paper and virtually any porous surface.

It is also very easy to use and to integrate in any packaging line: the control unit can be placed up to 8m away from the printhead that, thanks to the exclusive design of its pressurised ink control system, can be orientated in any position.

The use of Linx's oil based black pigmented ink also delivers excellent readability and light-fastness, features that were essential for the Riello application.

The production facility of Riello Burners comprises twelve computerised lines, each producing 250 packages during an 8h cycle.

The printer marks a package every ten seconds.

Once packed, each case has to be labelled by hand.

The label is printed with a barcode, generated from the company database, that identifies the customer.

During transit, this barcode is read by a scanner which sends the information to the Linx printer along the line.

The printer (installed with the twin printhead option) processes the information received and prints the logos and the text applicable to the specific customer.

The software package developed by Tradex interfaces with Riello's company database to acquire the data for printing.

The system constantly controls and monitors progress during each phase of product processing, reporting any alarm/fault/event detected on the plant.
