Top UK Inventor To Open Show
One of the UK's most famous inventors, Trevor Baylis, will be opening Loughborough University's Industrial Design and Technology Degree Show 2004.
One of the UK's most famous inventors, Trevor Baylis, will be opening Loughborough University's Industrial Design and Technology Degree Show 2004.
Trevor, who is best known for his 'Clockwork Radio' invention, will officially open the show at a private viewing on 4 June.
Members of the public are invited to visit the event from 5 - 8 June.
On display at the exhibition will be hundreds of working prototypes, models and graphics of innovative ideas, produced by students who are graduating from one of the best product design courses in the UK.
A total of 110 students will be presenting their final year projects, many of which have been developed in collaboration with companies such as BBC Audiobooks, Boots Healthcare, Bosch Power Tools, Jaguar, Land Rover, Morphy Richards, Motorola and Nokia.
Paul Wormald, a lecturer in the University's Department of Design and Technology said: "I am delighted that Trevor Baylis has agreed to officially open the show.
He is one of the country's top inventors and has helped inspire many people, including our students." Some of the outstanding designs on show will include: * Workstation for children with learning difficulties within primary schools * Collapsible suitcase * Automatic pasta and rice cooker * Surgical face mask * Backpack with integral lifejacket * Scuba diving safety device * Hands free public telephone kiosk * Fashion mobile phone handset * Mechanical washing machine for backpackers * Mobility aid for the elderly within the residential home environment At the Degree Show finalists will compete for a Prize for Innovation Award as well as several other prizes that will be presented throughout the event.
Members of the public and industry are very welcome to visit the Degree Show, which will take place in the James France Exhibition area on the University's campus, off Epinal Way, Loughborough.
The exhibition will be open from 10am until 5pm each day, admission is free and advance booking is not required.
