Spokesperson Declan Hughes explains; "Companies at all stages of the supply chain are invited to the day, which will include practical demonstrations of new products and technology." He adds: "We have organised the day to remind companies of the very important role played by packaging.
It's easy to take packaging for granted, but without it, products would simply not reach their markets in saleable condition.
Quality packaging materials and machinery are vital to successful commerce." The Open Day will allow local business people the opportunity to see the latest packaging materials and methods, including demonstrations of the latest packaging machinery.
Declan Hughes explains: "Increasingly onerous health and safety requirements have led to a new breed of technology.
For example, one of the items of new technology on display will be a robotic device which is able to stretchwrap goods on pallets.
"The robot moves around the stationary pallet, reducing the risk of loose goods falling from the pallet, and ensures that transit stock is consistent and safely wrapped for transit." He adds: "The latest technology has occupational health benefits, too, for example by automatically threading strapping underneath pallets, rather than relying on manual threading.
This can help to prevent back strain amongst employees and reduce sickness absence." The Lightning Packaging Open Day will also provide an opportunity for companies to see demonstrated a range of packaging equipment suppliers, all under the same roof, on the same day.
