Lightning Packaging have celebrated their continued business success with an Open Day for clients and suppliers, at which they demonstrated recent developments in packaging materials and equipment.

The event, held on April 17 2007, offered companies the chance to learn more about transit packaging, and how to make the most of a packaging budget Spokesperson Declan Hughes explains; "The Open Day was a great success"

"More than 100 companies attended, and they represented all stages in the supply chain".

"It was an opportunity for them to learn more about the latest packaging technologies, through practical demonstrations of new products." Increasingly onerous health and safety requirements have led to a new breed of packaging technology.

One of the items of new technology on display was a robotic device which is able to stretchwrap goods on pallets.

The Robopac moves around the stationary pallet, reducing the risk of loose goods falling from the pallet, and ensures that stock is consistently and safely wrapped for transit.

It automatically adjusts to wrap any size pallet and can wrap up to 250 pallets on just one charge.

As a licensed distributor of Robopac machinery, representatives from Lightning Packaging and manufacturers Robopac were on hand to demonstrate the versatility of this packaging engineering.

The Lightning Packaging Open Day illustrated how simple but innovative technology can offer occupational health benefits.

On display was the Cyklop ES 600 strap dispenser, a motorised pallet strap guide device.

The dispenser automatically threads polypropylene strapping under a pallet and up the other side, presenting the operator with the strap ready for sealing.

This saves any bending or stretching and provides effortless strapping of goods to a pallet.

Declan Hughes comments: "The latest technology can help to prevent back strain amongst employees and reduce sickness absence." The event also provided an opportunity for companies to see demonstrated a range of equipment all under the same roof, on the same day.

The day has been hailed a commercial success with 20 orders for machinery trials taken on the day.

The team at Lightning Packaging are now considering making this an annual event, as part of their business development calendar.
