Handheld digital refractometer covers sugar range
Labcell has introduced the PAL-3 handheld digital refractometer that operates across the full range of 0 to 93% Brix (the industry-standard measurement unit for sugar content).
Labcell has introduced the PAL-3 handheld digital refractometer that operates across the full range of 0 to 93% Brix (the industry-standard measurement unit for sugar content).
In common with the similar PAL-1 and PAL-2 instruments, the new PAL-3 is compact, lightweight, easy to use and fast.
However, for customers who need to measure the full spectrum of 0-93% Brix, this is the first time that a pocket-sized digital instrument has been capable of achieving this.
As with the other PAL digital refractometers, the user simply has to place a small amount of liquid (0.3ml or greater) on the sample cup and press the 'start' button.
The result, expressed as an industry-standard Brix percentage, is displayed on the unambiguous LCD in just two to three seconds.
With a resolution of 0.1% Brix, an accuracy of +/-0.2% Brix and automatic temperature compensation, the instrument is suitable for all but the most demanding of applications.
Samples from 10 to 60 degrees C can be analysed.
Once a measurement has been taken, the sample prism is simply wiped clean with a moistened tissue, whereupon it is ready to be used again.
Alternatively, the instrument can also be washed under running water if required, thanks to its IP65 sealing.
Calibration requires nothing more than water, and the two AAA alkaline batteries will last for approximately 11,000 measurements.
