Metal Detector Software Eases Traceability Issues
Traceability issues can be less of a problem for food manufacturers according to Lock Inspection Systems.
Anglia Crown produces ready meals in plastic trays ranging from chicken curry and rice to beef stroganoff with vegetables and potatoes at its facilities in Colchester and Manchester.
A long standing customer of Lock, when it came to purchasing new equipment following a surge in business growth, the company didn't hesitate to contact Lock.
After consultation with Anglia Crown's engineers, Lock prescribed two MET 30+ metal detector systems, bringing the total number of units installed across the two sites up to six.
In a high-risk food hygiene environment, equipment must be built from hard wearing materials to withstand the rigours of cleaning.
The MET 30+ detectors and conveyor systems at Anglia Crown are ruggedly constructed from stainless steel and sealed to IP66 to allow full washdown at the end of each shift said Lock.
With service a prime consideration, Anglia Crown took out Lock's premier service contracts to maximise uptime and safeguard against unplanned downtime.
The contracts entitle Anglia Crown to a discount on spare parts, call-out charges and breakdown rates and include provision for continuing training and machine maintenance.
Three annual check-up visits from Lock engineers coupled with calibration certificates prove that the equipment is operating to maximum specification and informal, on-site training ensures personnel can operate machines and deal with basic problems with confidence, commented the company.
Chris Hanson, the engineering manager, at Anglia Crown said: "When we're buying machinery, we don't just consider price and quality.
Service is every bit as important.
Lost production time is crucially expensive to us, so we need to be sure that our suppliers have the back-up to meet the service standards that we expect.
Lock's engineers pay frequent visits to check the machines are operating as specified.
Informal training during visits also mean that all personnel are up to speed with using the machines and can carry out basic troubleshooting themselves - although touch wood, we've not had any problems.".
