The addition of automatic handling for sheets up to 2500mm by 1250mm by 3.5mm thick on the latest LVD Global 20 turret punch press, with job listing software and paging capability to assist unmanned operation, was shown for the first time at EMO 2001, Hannover.

The Global 20, which was the first 'international' turret punch developed jointly between LVD in Belgium and the LVD/Strippit operation in the US, has axis positioning speeds of 110m/min, a 30 station turret with less than one second index time and a choice of three or four auto-index positions of 88.9mm diameter providing up to 32 indexable tools.

With a servo-driven hydraulic ram delivering 205kN punching force, the Global 20 features SmartStroke (registered trade mark), an automatic hover height software control which calculates the most effective stroke of the ram based on material thickness and distance between holes.

The auto load/unload system has been designed to be compact with loading and unloading taking place at the same side of the machine in just 35 secs per cycle.

Both loading of raw material and unloading of finished nested parts is managed at the front of the unit away from the loading head and ensuring excellent access by forklift for manipulating pallets.

Within the fully integrated system is a double sheet detection device which prevents the loading of more than one sheet at a time while a sheet separation device which can be used for both ferrous and non-ferrous material.

The inclusion of a full brush table on the Global 20 reduces noise and part scratching.

Working in conjunction with the brush table is an hydraulic lift table which can accommodate more delicate part nests.

The complete automation system is operated under the Global 20's GE-Fanuc PC-based 180i control with Windows (registered trade mark) based software and includes features such as full diagnostics, increased program storage and a networking capability.
