Metalworking 2002 was the time for sheetmetal subcontractor Stevens and Carlotti to make the decision to replace an ageing press brake with an LVD multi-axis PPEB 3 metre 1350kN machine.

Metalworking 2002 at the NEC was the time for Franco Carlotti, a director of Sandwich in Kent-based sheetmetal subcontractor Stevens and Carlotti to make the decision to replace an ageing press brake with an LVD multi-axis PPEB 3 metre 1350kN machine to be delivered direct from the show Bought from LVD (UK) of Marlow the GBP 90,000 PPEB 8EF 135/30 eight-axis machine, shown for the first time at a UK exhibition, included Lazer Safe guarding and LVD's Easy Form Laser automatic angle measuring system

Said Franco Carlotti: "This is part of our on-going investment strategy and we were very impressed with the combination of Easy Form Laser and Lazer Safe guarding which will considerably improve our bending cycle times, accuracy capability and set up times.

The new machine will complement our existing LVD press brake and two LVD laser profiling machines and LVD's CADMAN integrated off-line programming software.

With this background we knew what we wanted but still checked out the other suppliers at the show.

But the PPEB still best met our needs." The company employs 60 people at Sandwich supplying the power generation, electronics, ticketing and screen printing industries with sheet metal components in batches that vary between one and several hundred.

This means set up times are critical and when producing parts from materials as diverse as mild steel, aluminium and stainless steel, between 1mm and 10mm thick, the PPEB 8EF 135/30 provided the highest versatility.
