Robotic cell bends under real-time angle control

A LVD (UK) product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jun 3, 2004

Robotic press brake bending cell embodies recent advances in adaptive forming to provide real-time angle control and ensure consistent part accuracy without operator intervention.

The second generation of Salvagnini's ROBOformER robotic press brake bending cell - result of the co-operation between LVD and Salvagnini - has been shown at Lamiera 2004 in Bologna.

LVD and Salvagnini shared engineering resources and technology to develop the ROBOformER, which is based on Salvagnini's design and comprises an LVD PPEB press brake with the patented LVD Easy-Form Laser angle control system; Salvagnini CAMformER programming package; Salvagnini Six control system; 6-axis Kuka robot, and material handling stations.

The new cell makes use of LVD's recent advances in adaptive forming to provide real-time angle control and ensure consistent part accuracy without operator intervention.

The ROBOformER automated bending cell is the only system of its kind able to take a part from a two- or three-dimensional CAD drawing to a finished product at the touch of a button.

Bending sequences and robot movements are automatically calculated for the most efficient production using a single machine program, without the need for robot teaching and without process interruption for re-programming the next part (off-line).

The patented Soft Link gripping device automatically corrects any robot movement errors.

Robot assisted material handling for bending operations addresses the current market concerns of increased labor costs, need for unmanned second/third shifts with frequent production changes, and improved operator safety.

The ROBOformER provides a high quality, cost-effective and automated flexible solution for both short and long production runs.
