'Second generation' intelligent sensor combines the simple set-up of a photoelectric sensor with the power of an image inspection system.

The Light Pix AE20 is a new 2nd generation intelligent sensor from Panasonic that combines the simple set up of a photoelectric sensor with the power of an image inspection system Housed in a robust IP67 rated aluminium case, the unit is available with a choice of four different inspection areas, ranging from 2mm x 1.6mm up to 80mm x 70mm

Each unit is equipped with parallel and RS232C user interfaces and can be programmed via a USB tool port.

Built in LED illumination and a light guide system that aids installation means the system is totally self-contained.

The Light Pix controller can be loaded with one of six application programs that are designed to meet the various inspection needs of industry: * Colour Extraction - allows the system to detect a pre-registered colour and calculate its area.

* Colour Discrimination - will inspect a pre-defined area and inform which colour of seven pre-defined colours is present.

* Colour Pattern Matching - a pre-registered template is compared to the captured image and a comparison is made.

* Edge Detection - a product edge is located and a position determined.

A decision on the position of the edge can be made.

* Apex Detection - the corner position of a product can be determined and a decision made as to its relative position.

* Size Measurement - the minimum and maximum dimensions of an object can be determined and a decision made as to it size.

The AETOOL configuration software, which is freely downloadable from the Panasonic website, is a simple to use configuration tool.

A Windows based programming environment takes the user through the four easy steps required to configure the system.

Simple one-click operations and a large image window mean the Light Pix can be configured within a matter of minutes, even by an unskilled operator.
