Cardiff University has appointed Dr Stefan Dimov, deputy director of its Manufacturing Engineering Centre, as Professor of Advanced Manufacturing.

Cardiff University has awarded a Professorship to a senior member of staff at its Manufacturing Engineering Centre (MEC) Dr Stefan Dimov, Deputy Director of the MEC, has been appointed Professor of Advanced Manufacturing

"This promotion is in recognition of the importance of the MEC's work in Research and Development and its involvement in European and National Activities".

" It would not have been possible to achieve this without the enthusiasm, hard work and help of the whole team at the MEC - I am very happy to receive it," said Dr Dimov.

Dr Dimov joined the MEC in 1995 and has been instrumental in helping to develop the Centre including initiating and co-ordinating more than GBP 30m of research projects, providing more than 2000 companies with advanced manufacturing services and consultancy valued at GBP 1m per annum and supervising 40 post-doctoral researchers.

He has been a keynote speaker at 17 national and international conferences, has served on ten national and international technical committees and is a member of several panels including the EPSRC Peer Review College and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' (IEEE) Manufacturing Enterprise Professional Network.

Professor Duc Truong Pham, director of the MEC said: "Stefan is an exceptional person who works very hard, has tremendous vision and is an inspirational leader and manager who applies himself with great determination".

"Stefan deserves recognition for his outstanding record of achievement and this new position will provide him with the platform, which will allow him to take his career to even greater heights.

Everyone at the MEC is delighted and we all treasure his commitment and the contribution he has made." Dr Dimov is originally from Bulgaria and manages to find time in his busy schedule to ski and play basketball.
