ERPO ERP helps aerospace supplier 'go lean'

A K3 Business Technology Group product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Sep 21, 2006

Manufacturer of high performance gas path seals for manufacturers of stationary and aero gas turbine engines, took on integrated ERP and increased its UK and overseas order books.

To support a number of strategic business objectives, including the introduction of lean manufacturing techniques, Neomet, a UK-based aerospace supplier, has turned to McGuffie Brunton and an integrated SYSPRO 6.0 ERP solution.

Neomet, part of global surface technology specialist, Sulzer Metco Turbine Components, manufactures high performance gas path seals for a range of manufacturers of stationary and aero gas turbine engines, and has increased its UK and overseas order book.

Because of the increase in demand for its seal products, which are fabricated honeycomb parts, Neomet felt it could no longer rely on a largely paper-based IT system and so sought the benefits of a fully integrated ERP system.

In particular they were looking for a system that had been designed for SMEs.

The aerospace supplier believes that the installation of SYSPRO, which is due to 'go live' in December, will help the firm to meet three key requirements.

These are; to introduce lean manufacturing and Shop Floor Data Capture in order to expedite its products through the factory; to maintain the stock area; and to improve the company's quotation and order processes.

According to Ben West, technical sales manager with Neomet, "We were particularly interested in a modular ERP system and one that is balanced for the specific needs of SMEs, rather than a system that is designed for larger corporate organisations." He added: "Furthermore, with the help of SYSPRO, we are looking to have better visibility over our entire manufacturing processes." SYSPRO is expected to reduce administration costs and speed up the processing of customer quotations and give better visibility of the parts in the manufacturing schedule which will improve the response to customer enquiries.

Neomet will introduce SYSPRO in two phases with the shop floor data capture system going live in 2007, potentially extending to integrated customer relationship management (CRM) in the future.
