Software improves project workflows
McLaren Software has announced the immediate availability of its Enterprise Engineer 3.1 release for the FileNet P8 platform.
McLaren Software has announced the immediate availability of its Enterprise Engineer 3.1 release for the FileNet P8 platform.
FileNet is a provider of enterprise content and business process management systems.
Enterprise Engineer 3.1 includes a number of new features to improve the user experience and provide workflow capabilities for managing the engineering business process.
Features added in Enterprise Engineer 3.1 include an Explorer client that allows users to search, browse and manage engineering information from their Windows desktop, workpacks that allow users to package information and send it through workflows and a batch import tool that allows engineering information to be stored in the FileNet P8 repository without losing the relationships with other referenced content, said McLaren.
The company is also releasing Enterprise Engineer Review, a component of Enterprise Engineer, that it is claimed will allow users to redline and mark-up engineering information and then store those change requests in FileNet's P8 repository.
The company believes that Enterprise Engineer Review marks a step forward in the way the engineering change process is managed, shifting from the simple viewing of information to the management of the review process and the timely and controlled update of that information.
David Parry, chief technology officer at McLaren Software, said: "This release of Enterprise Engineer 3.1 demonstrates our commitment to the FileNet P8 platform.
FileNet's ValueNet program allows us to align our engineering roadmaps to meet our joint customers' needs." Enterprise Engineer is a suite of configurable business applications that manage engineering content and the business processes that use that content.
The software supports the engineering process by providing a single point of controlled access to manage the production and use of project content, such as drawings, correspondence, procedures and specifications, throughout an asset's lifecycle, added the company.
"McLaren's Enterprise Engineer is a key part of FileNet's strategy to build marketing and sales momentum in the manufacturing industry vertical.
The 3.1 release delivers additional functionality, which will help our joint customers streamline their engineering processes and reduce costs by minimising rework and improving efficiency across the enterprise," said Martyn Christian, chief marketing officer at FileNet.
Extending the capabilities of the FileNet P8 platform, Enterprise Engineer is said to accommodate the complexity of engineering content and associated business processes.
By connecting engineering and the enterprise, it can reduce costs, reduce the risk of non-compliance and lost production, improve efficiency and communication, and accelerate project execution.
