McLaren launches CADlink 4.0

A McLaren Software product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Nov 4, 2003

McLaren CADLink 4 brings CAD content to the enterprise to control access and maintain version control over CAD drawings created in Autodesk AutoCAD and Bentley MicroStation.

Engineers working with the Documentum enterprise content management environment can now more closely integrate CAD drawings to improve efficiency and save time and effort with the launch of the latest version of CADLink; CADLink 4 from McLaren.

With over 25,000 CADLink seats sold world-wide, this new version allows users to control access and maintain version control over CAD drawings created in Autodesk AutoCAD and Bentley MicroStation to ensure that the right people are accessing the correct version of the drawing at the right time.

This release features a new architecture that boosts speed and improves scalability, plus new enhancements including support for hybrid raster/vector drawings and multiple sessions.

CADLink 4 also offers a clear upgrade path to McLaren Enterprise Engineer Drawing Manager, a complete configurable drawing management application providing an environment to automate and manage Drawing Office business processes and to extend engineering content across the enterprise.

CADLink drawings are stored and managed directly in the content server, with access provided through a menu within the native CAD user interface.

CADLink also includes full reference file handling and Title Block integration that automatically updates drawing information from attribute data from within the content server.

Tim Taylor, chief business development officer at McLaren commented: "CADLink bridges the gap between CAD and enterprise content and provides engineers with some very practical advantages to boost efficiency and save time.

They will be able to integrate these systems with the confidence that they will be seeing the correct version of the CAD drawing at the right time at all stages of development.

Providing such access to engineering content across the whole enterprise offers significant advantages to isolated departmental systems, as it can be shared more effectively and re-used in a wider range of business processes." CADLink provides functionality to:.

* Control access to and maintain versions of AutoCAD and MicroStation CAD drawings.

* Support the management of reference files linked to CAD drawings.

* Support the management of hybrid (raster/vector) documents.

* Provide access to the Content Server directly from the AutoCAD and MicroStation applications via dedicated menus.

* Support 2 way title block synchronisation using attribute information from the Content Server.

* Provide a full audit trail to track access and changes to support regulatory compliance demands.

* Full text indexing and searching of CAD drawings for fast retrieval.

* Support Documentum 4i and 5 platforms.

* Support AutoCAD 2000, 2002 and MicroStation 7 and 8.

In addition, new CADLink 4 aware versions of McLaren's applications for loading (DocLoader), Exporting (Solo), viewing (Vueserver) and publishing (RenderCenter) content have also been released.
