Benchtop moulders eliminate 'wobbly bubbles'
PR Engineering of Sheffield use benchtop moulding machines to achieve the single shot accuracy which is critical for the moulding of spirit level vials.
PR Engineering of Sheffield use benchtop Minimolders, supplied by MCP Tooling Technologies, to achieve the single shot accuracy which is critical for the moulding of spirit level vials.
The company found that using a larger moulding machine causes lack of consistency between products, particularly with the barrel core of the vial, which must be accurate to 0.001in to eliminate bubble migration or, as it's more commonly known in the trade, "bubble wobble"! The tight tolerance put on the movement of the bubble when rotated through 360 degrees maintains accuracy no matter how it is orientated within the spirit level.
PR Engineering owns 3 MCP horizontal benchtop injection moulders which have clocked up around 7 million cycles between them.
The newest machine installed is the 12/90 HSP, a fully automatic machine designed to manufacture components from 0.02 to 12 grams shot weight in a wide range of materials including glass filled Nylon, ABS, Noryl, PC, Acetal, PBT, PEEK and PPS.
An electro servo motor screw drive system is now available as an option on all machines in the range, which can reduce cycle time by up to 25%.
Each Minimolder delivers the reliability, accuracy and consistency PR Engineering requires to produce high quality vials for not only spirit and laser levels, but a wider range of applications including motor vehicle and go-kart alignment, games tables, gun sights, and even cufflinks!.
