Conference to discuss UK energy costs effects
Such is the concern over the UK's deepening energy crisis that Manufacturing Live 2006 manufacturing event, has created a dedicated conference programme, entitled 'Energy Business Live'.
Leading manufacturers from across the UK will be gathering in September to tackle the most important issue facing UK businesses - how to survive soaring energy costs.
Such is the concern over the deepening energy crisis that Manufacturing Live 2006, the UK's premier manufacturing event, has created a dedicated conference programme, entitled Energy Business Live, to address short and long-term solutions to the rising costs and limited supplies of energy.
Delegates at the conference, to be held at The Ricoh Arena in Coventry on September 20 and 21, will debate what immediate action needs to be taken by the Government and the manufacturing industry itself to avert further job losses and the real prospect, in certain hard-hit sectors, of a return to the three-day working week.
The unprecedented demand for energy, escalating prices, climate change and the potential of nuclear power will be discussed during a free two-day workshop and seminar programme, which also aims to share best practice in areas such as: * Buying energy competitively.
* Understanding environmental and waste regulations.
* Waste and environmental management: the profitable benefits.
* The shifting relationship between low cost labour and long distance logistics.
* Cutting fleet fuel costs.
Dr Tim Lunel, speaker at the conference and chief executive of the National Energy Foundation, said: "We will only be able to move to carbon-neutral energy systems by drastically cutting demand and by investing in mass market renewable and energy efficient projects across the country".
"Events like this are crucial to create awareness and understanding of the short and long term-solutions, so that UK businesses can make positive steps to address the energy crisis." Glen White, group chief executive of the event organiser Conquest Business Media, added: "From a position of self-sufficiency, the UK economy is staring down the end of a gas pipeline that starts thousands of miles away and is fast becoming a net importer of oil.
This promises a fragile future and demands action now.
By highlighting best practice in our industry, Energy Business Live aims to offer manufacturers practical guidance to prepare them for the challenges ahead.".
