Innovative punch press tooling to be
demonstrated

Demonstrations of tapping and shearing tooling for sheet metal punch presses will be made alongside slug-free (burr-free) dies and thin-turret tooling for Strippit punch presses.

The latest tooling innovations will be demonstrated to sheet metal fabricators when they visit the Mate Precision Tooling exhibit at Metalform Booth 0446, March 20-23, at the Stephens Convention Center, Rosemount, Illinois, USA *Mate EasyTap Tooling produces threaded holes In sheet metal - designed to extend the punching capabilities of todays CNC punch presses, the new Mate EasyTap Thread Tapping System produces precisely located threaded holes at high speed, automatically and with repeatable quality

By producing threaded holes on the punch press, Mate EasyTap tooling eliminates the need for secondary tapping operations either by hand or with adjacent machines.

The Mate EasyTap tooling system is designed to operate in thick turret presses equipped with auto index stations, programmable ram depth capability, and suitable software.

The thread tapping operation is accomplished automatically through a coordinated rotation of the turret press auto index station and the ram stroke.

The tooling will produce a full range of threaded hole diameters in most materials including stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum.

* MateShear Tooling shears components on punch presses - Mates continuous shearing tool system uses a combination of high performance tooling and innovative machine programming to produce components with the same edge quality and consistency as those produced on a shear.

MateShear system is available for punch presses with programmable ram depth control, and comprises an Ultra Light Guide, a high performance punch insert with custom shear, an Ultra Tec fully guided stripper, and Slug Free Die with special die geometry.

The Ultra Light guide features a hardened body for continuous service, internal and external lubrication for high-speed operation, Ultra Light spring pack to eliminate sheet marking, and precise orientation features for high quality piece parts.

The shear blade is made of specially formulated M4PM tool steel designed for exceptional wear-resistance and longest tool life.

The fully guided stripper is designed for use in close proximity to machine clamps to maximize material utilization and allow shearing close to formed areas.

The Slug Free die is made of highly wear-resistant tool steel and includes slug free geometry to eliminate slug pulling, clamp clearing relief, and special die wall relief.

* Mate Thin Turret Tooling for Strippit presses has set-up advantages - designed to provide exceptional value while reducing overall tooling costs, Mate Thin Turret tooling for Strippit presses has many setup, installation and maintenance advantages.

It is interchangeable with other suppliers tool systems, punches are made of DuraSteel, which has significantly greater durability over popular alternative materials, and it has stripper guides precisely manufactured from highest quality tool steel for exceptional accuracy and concentricity.

Mates Strippit tooling incorporates Mate Slug Free dies to eliminate slug pulling and extend tooling life, and has punch points machined with a 1/4 degree back taper to reduce friction during stripping to offer extended tooling life.

Within Mates new Strippit tool offering are: (1) 1/2in Snap Apart assemblies, (2) 5/8in Drop-In assemblies, (3) Full body assemblies with Slug Free dies for 1-1/4 stations, (4) Punches, strippers and Slug Free dies for 3-1/2 station, (5) MTG 8 station (0.500) Multi-Tool punches, strippers, and Slug Free dies, and (6) Special forming assemblies for 1-1/4 and 3-1/2 stations to facilitate expanded punching capabilities.
