Punch press tooling holds fasteners reliably

A Mate Precision Tooling product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team May 27, 2005

Tooling fabricates forms that align with and hold hexagon head bolts and provides a reliable and secure method of holding threaded fasteners in sheet metal for assembly.

Mate's HexLock tooling fabricates forms that align with and hold hexagon head bolts.

This new fabricating option for punch presses provides a reliable and secure method of holding threaded fasteners in sheet metal for assembly.

When formed, the HexLock accepts either a hexagon nut or the head of a hexagon bolt.

A nut allows sheet metal parts to be assembled with a corresponding bolt from the reverse side of the part.

Alternatively, the head of a bolt can be installed with the thread protruding through the sheet metal.

In either mode, the fastener is gripped securely between the punched forms to prevent nut rotation as the assembly is torqued together.

Mate's HexLock tooling is designed for use with a wide variety of head bolts and nuts including DIN933 metric hexagon head bolts and nuts in M5, M6 and M8 thread sizes.

Inch thread sizes are also available.

Mate's HexLock tooling is an inverted spring loaded triple lance and form tool system.

It is available as part of Mate's Ultraform tooling line for thick turret machines in 1-1/4in B stations.

It is also available as part of Mate's other popular tooling lines by special order.

Like all Mate tooling, the HexLock is designed for extra long life.

Its robust construction includes: highly wear resistant steel cutting edges for extended service life, steel spring upper and lower stripper mechanism, and fully interchangeable replacement parts for maximum convenience.

Mate HexLock is another great addition to the full line of application specific tooling for producing tapped threads, bends, hinges, interlocking components and custom markings, to name just a few.

All of these features can be fabricated on a single punch press automatically with high speed and repeatable quality when tooled with Mate.
