Heavy duty wire/spot welder has jig drawer update

A Meritus product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Apr 12, 2002

Flexible CNC semi-automatic jig welding system has a new concept in jig drawer welding systems, and has been designed and developed for heavy-duty wire welding and spot welding applications.

Meritus, the St Albans, Hertfordshire, England based resistance welding equipment manufacturer has this week launched Fleximan XY, a brand new flexible CNC Semi Automatic Jig Welding System at WIRE 2002 in Dusseldorf.

Fleximan XY is a 125kVA semi automatic jig welding machine with a new concept in jig drawer welding systems, designed and developed for heavy-duty wire welding and spot welding applications.

It incorporates a range of unique features including, single, double and triple vertical welding heads, upper and lower programmable height ranging from 0 - 200mm (Z axis), rotating upper and lower welding heads through 360deg (R axis), Horizontal side gun and various C-frame throat and index lengths.

It is also available with a Medium Frequency DC power supply.

Fleximan XY has a robust fabricated steel 'C' frame to ensure minimum deflection, machine tool low friction linear bearings for smooth motion control, AC servo driven ballscrew drives maintain positional accuracy of XYZ axis.

Allen Bradley CNC AC servo driven programmable drives with a large full colour touch screen programming console and hand held positioning programming pendant with jog and auto teach facility makes setting up very simple.

British Federal's WS700 multi-schedule weld control together with programmable weld pressure provides a consistent weld quality, whilst the double ballscrew drive on the Y-axis ensures simultaneous and repeatable synchronised motion.

A built-in modem provides instantaneous factory diagnostic support.

Fleximan XY's jig drawer welding system is a new and unique concept in jig welding technology featuring a totally enclosed welding area to ensure operator safety, three sides loading and unloading access as well as loading and unloading of one jig whilst automatically welding another.

These features provide controlled jig drawer opening to save operator load and unload time and reduces the time required to transfer the jig into the machine welding area Meritus will supply the number and sizes of jig drawers required to suit the customer's component range The operator is able to select the use of different jig drawers for single or up to four jig drawer operation, which can significantly reduce jig changeover times.

The welding aperture size is dependent on number of drawers being used, but can range from 387mm x 1200mm and 2000mm x 1200mm.

In most jig transfer systems, particularly the rotary type, significant time can be lost when transferring small jigs into the welding area.

This time is minimised when using this jig drawer system.

Meritus is a division of British Federal.
