Latest furnace expands rolled metal
products
To reduce heat treatment costs and generate new business a rolling mill is using a new furnace's accurate heating to develop additional services in rolling, heat treatment and straightening work.
Specialist metal hand rolling company Pro-Roll is using a Meltech MT1300 electric furnace to cut heat treatment costs and generate new business at its rolling mill in Sheffield, UK The MT1300's accurate heating will allow Pro-Roll to develop additional services in rolling, heat treatment and straightening work for aerospace, biomedical and commercial applications

In-line wire jacketing machine is compact
A new approach to manufacturing silicone rubber coated, single and multi-core wires, and jacketed cables is a high-speed, cost-effective 'entry level' jacketing machine, which takes up less space.
Furnace provides accurate temperature control
High temperature electrical annealing furnace for stainless steel and complex alloys achieves accurate temperature zoning up to 1,300 deg C, yet offers reduced running costs.
Pro-Roll supplies titanium, cobalt, nickel alloys and special grades of stainless steel to the aerospace, biomedical and commercial markets.
The Meltech MT1300 furnace offers heat treatment up to 1,300 deg C.
Initially it will be used for straightening and annealing five metre titanium alloy bars.
* Reducing furnace running costs - Pro-Roll has replaced an older electric furnace with the MT1300.
"Like all companies in the metal processing sector we've experienced a significant increase energy costs.
The older furnace would take 4-5h, half a shift, to reach 850 deg C.
With the MT1300 it takes just 30 minutes to reach 1,300 deg C, a significant saving in time and furnace costs," said Symon Havenhand, managing director, Pro-Roll.
In addition to higher temperatures, the MT1300 furnace's more accurate temperature control across the length of the furnace will enable Pro-Roll to meet the heat treatment performance required for aerospace alloy processing.
* Accurate temperature control - manufactured by Meltech Engineering, The Meltech MT1300 furnace is based on the 'low thermal mass' principle and feature multi-zone temperature control.
It is available in a range of sizes with a choice of heating element materials such as Kanthal APM, for processing wires typically 0.5mm - 6mm diameter.
Customisation of element design allows optimisation of the MT1300's performance to fine tune temperature zoning and increased element operational life.
The MT1300 uses advanced ceramic and insulation materials to give 90% thermal efficiency, leading to more consistent and manageable heating across the length of the furnace and reduced furnace heating running cost.
The Meltech furnace is available as a standalone furnace or as part of a self contained Meltech annealing line with integral spooling through to large scale process annealing lines with capacities in excess of 1 tonne/h.
