Aircraft engine manufacturer required new production information displays to motivate and encourage their teams of production assembly workers and engineers.
When Roll Royce Aero Engines, based in Derby, required new Production Displays to motivate and encourage their teams of production assembly workers and engineers, they commissioned, Worcestershire based, Messagemaker Displays to provide the solution.
"The problem with these particular production lines is that they are located within two buildings, dissected by a road," said Adam Brocklehurst, the Production Engineer responsible for managing the project for Rolls Royce.
"After discussing the project with out IT dept, we commissioned messagemaker to design a custom solution which would include bespoke soft ware to ensure system compatibility." The situation, whereby there was a need for displays to be sited on each of the three engine assembly lines in both dissected buildings, meant that not only did we need to design and manufacture six custom production displays, but we also needed to write software with customer adjustable parameters, which would sit on their existing TCP/IP Ethernet network that served the two buildings," said Paul Bubb of Messagemaker Displays.
Because Rolls Royce required a system to provide their workers with real time information, they needed a display with four windows, two of which contained a real time clock and date and two, which worked as real time countdown clocks.
The idea is to give the staff target production times, set by a computer, whilst showing the actual achieved assembly times.
