Loop tester option avoids tripping RCDs

A Megger product story

A test option which is guaranteed not to trip RCDs, and safe operation even if accidentally connected to a live three-phase supply, are among the key benefits of earth-impedance loop testers.

A test option which is guaranteed not to trip RCDs, and safe operation even if accidentally connected to a live three-phase supply, are among the key benefits of Megger's new LT300 range of earth-impedance loop testers.

These tough, easy-to-use instruments have been developed, after extensive customer research, specifically to address the needs of electrical contractors working in today's demanding and competitive market conditions.

The new loop testers are easy to hold and use, even under difficult on-site conditions, and they have a robust rubber case with a built-in lid to protect the display, ensuring that they are easily able to withstand the rigours of day-to-day use.

In addition, the instruments are IP54 ingress protection rated, indicating that they are exceptionally well protected against the entry of dust and water.

To ensure an exact match with users' needs, Megger is initially offering its new LT300 loop testers in two versions.

The entry-level LT310 is ideal for those requiring instruments to carry out essential tests in line with the requirements of the 16th edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations.

It performs phase-to-earth loop tests and prospective short-circuit current calculations, as well as indicating supply polarity and voltage.

It offers a choice of non-tripping or fast, high-current loop testing, and conforms fully with the requirements of IEC61010-1 for Category III 300V applications.

The LT320 model provides all of the functionality of the LT310, and adds facilities for phase-to-phase testing, supply frequency measurement, automatic calculation of final circuit impedance (R1+R2), the display of maximum Zs, and for checking phase rotation.

It also incorporates a backlit display and illuminated selector switches, which aid testing in poorly lit environments.
