Impinj standardises on Magma's IC software

A Magma product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Oct 16, 2008

Impinj, a provider of radio-frequency identification (RFID), has selected Magma Design Automation as its primary IC implementation software vendor.

Impinj selected Magma's system to reduce turnaround time, power and area.

This reduced Impinj's development costs and improved the performance on ICs (integrated circuits) used in its RFID solutions.

Vahid Vafaei, CAD director at Impinj, said: 'Talus Power Pro enabled us to accurately pinpoint areas in the design with the highest power consumption and make adjustments that led to a drastic 30 per cent power reduction.' Kevin Moynihan, general manager of Magma's design implementation business unit, said: 'Power-sensitive designs, such as RFID chips, particularly benefit from the low-power techniques applied throughout our RTL-to-GDSII design flow: they ensure the lowest power design and predictable results.' RFID identifies objects via a wireless communications protocol using radio waves.

With an integrated RTL-to-GDSII design flow and unified data model architecture, the Magma software concurrently analyses and optimises the design for timing, area and power.

Power reduction techniques are applied throughout the flow.
