With the digital simulator, Muller Weingarten, the leader in forming technology, has developed a tool for optimizing material flow within the press in a virtual environment.

The objective is to maximize the efficiency of new or existing equipment at a minimum of cost and effort.

The digital simulator is the 'Virtual Tuning' component within the PressTuning concept (Motion Tuning, Control Tuning and Virtual Tuning).

"The benefits of the digital simulator are based on the consistency of a system which is well-established in the automotive industry - CATIA V5, supporting the entire process from product design through methods and flow engineering to die design," said Georg P Holzinger, R and D manager, explaining the significant advantages.

This approach results in product-specific simulation of optimum production processes tailored to the production line concerned.

This process takes all marginal conditions into account while at the same time achieving maximum output rates.

A unique feature of the digital simulator - referred to as 'DigiSim' - is offline programming of the press in question.

This means that all parameters defined in the simulation can be transferred directly to the press control system.

"DigiSim is not utopic, it's already available in the market," stated Holzinger.

Two renowned German premium class car manufacturers have already acquired the 'DigiSim'.

Other customized solutions are currently in the development pipeline.
