New hole configuration sanding disks
launched
Following meticulous research into the optimum number of holes in a paper disk two sanding disks are believed to achieve the most efficient balance between hole geometry and abrasive grit.
Following meticulous research into the optimum number of holes in a paper disk, coupled with the desire to continue to offer the best and most complete abrasive system on the market, Mirka Abrasives has launched two new sanding disks Development has focused on achieving the most efficient balance between the number of holes in a paper disc, the size and configuration of the holes, and the symmetry between the holes and the remaining abrasive grit

Largest range of parting-off and grooving tools
A claim that its Mircona parting-off and grooving tools is the largest single range currently available from any manufacturer is being made by the UK supplier Advanced Carbide Tooling
The company's Gold Grip product is now to be offered in a 6+1 hole configuration alongside Q-Silver, a brand new 15-hole product.
Gold Grip is available in grit sizes ranging from P40 to P 500 and has been developed especially for refinishing applications in the Bodyshop, aerospace marine, automotive manufacture and bus and truck industries.
Q-Silver introduces new technology to paper sanding discs in the form of a specially treated, improved aluminium oxide abrasive grit with calcium (coarse grits) or zinc (fine grits) stearate coatings which combine to compensate for the loss of surface area from the extra holes.
Starting at P80 for fast stock/filler removal, grit sizes cover surface preparation and extend up to P1500 for pre-polishing.
Mirka claims Q-Silver is a premium paper product that features the optimum hole configuration for a paper disc.
Research undertaken by Mirka, one of the world's largest manufacturers of coated abrasives for the automotive refinishing industry, indicates that end-users regard 6+1 hole paper products as better than 6-hole but 15 holes offer the best performance: more holes compromise the grit surface area/extraction balance.
While the company believes these new product developments represent natural product evolution, their dust extraction capability does not match the performance of its benchmark Abranet product with 24,000 holes that offers virtually dust-free sanding.
