Dean and Wood, one of Britain's leading wholesalers of refrigeration, cooling and air conditioning equipment, is to distribute the revolutionary Mitsubishi Alpha controller

Dean and Wood, one of Britain's leading wholesalers of refrigeration, cooling and air conditioning (RAC) equipment, is to distribute the revolutionary Mitsubishi Alpha controller through its 19 UK branches Alpha is an integrated logic controller that combines timers, counters and relays with a programmable memory

It can therefore run control sequences for heating or cooling systems based on time and/or demand.

Other building automation systems, such as security, access, lighting and alarms, can also be controlled via the Alpha.

It has been developed from Mitsubishi's powerful industrial computers and controller technology, but is pocket sized, low cost and incredibly simple to use.

According to Ben Brown, Sales Director of Dean and Wood, one of the top three companies of its kind in Britain, "Mitsubishi's packaged air conditioning units are a top product in terms of sales, reliability and quality, so we were delighted to be offered the Alpha controller for RAC engineers.

"Alpha is the sort of new-idea product that stands to change for ever the way environmental systems are engineered.

It should make systems easier to set up and run; reduce energy consumption, and improve their responsiveness and performance." Some of the most powerful features of the Alpha are ideally suited to HVAC/RAC applications.

The Real Time Calendar/Clock provides advanced scheduling capabilities allowing users to preset functions or operations - not just minutes/hours ahead but days/months and even years hence.

As another example of the Alpha's power, the screen on the front of the unit is more that just a set-up and programming display.

Users have the ability to customise its operation to use it as a direct visual interface with the operator, i.e current temperature settings, fan speeds, and light intensity could be displayed and even changed by the operator depending upon the system design.

"With the Alpha you could expand the popular catchphrase to ask: 'What do you want to automate today!'" quips Chris Hazelwood, Mitsubishi's product manager for controllers.

Programming methods are very flexible, using the display and the eight push buttons on the front panel, OR by plugging in a laptop or PC, OR using pre-written programmes provided on plug in memory cassettes, OR by downloading from the Internet.

There are several sizes of Alpha, from 6 inputs/outputs to 20 inputs/outputs, the biggest being only 55x99x125mm.

The larger sizes are available in AC and DC versions, with the latter being able to accept both analogue and digital signals. Request free introductory details about products from Mitsubishi Electric Automation Systems ...
