Top speakers From Lotus Cars, CIPD, MHRA and futurist Patrick Dixon will discuss the challenges being faced by, and the importance of innovation in, the manufacturing industry today.

Microsoft Corp has released details of the third in a series of two-day conference-summits focused on business challenges and opportunities and innovative solutions in the manufacturing industry taking place across Europe The London Peak Performance in Manufacturing Innovation Road Show, which will take place at the Business Design Centre, Islington, on Wednesday 3 May and Thursday 4 May, sees the participation of illustrious international speakers, such as David Balcombe, Lotus Cars general manager for Vehicle Systems; Professor Kent Woods, chief executive officer at the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA); John Philpott, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development's chief economist; and futurist Patrick Dixon, recognised as a "Global Change Guru" by the Wall Street Journal

The conference will examine the manufacturing scene, with a specific focus on the consumer packaged goods (CPG), pharmaceutical, utilities and construction sectors.

It is being supported by: Accenture, Dassault Systemes, Iconics, Wonderware, Meridio, the OPC Foundation, OSIsoft, Panorama Software, Siemens Automation and Drives (A and D) and TxT e-solutions.

Balcombe will talk about innovation in the automotive industry.

Innovation is a key part of the corporate culture of Lotus Cars, a well-established sports car manufacturer and engineering consultancy, and plays a significant role in the company's success.

Dixon, one of the world's 20 most influential business thinkers, will discuss 'Sustainable High Performance Enterprise' and how companies should work in the future to keep pace with the speed of technological change, the ever-increasing number of regulations and the entry of new players from emerging markets.

Philpott will present his views on 'The UK Productivity Challenge'.

The starting point of his discussion will be the productivity data released by the Office for National Statistics in February which showed that workers in the UK are significantly behind Europe in terms of efficiency.

The Peak Performance in Manufacturing Innovation Road Show will also analyse the pharmaceutical industry, which, according to a House of Commons Health Committee report, is the third most profitable economic activity after tourism and finance in the UK.

Woods will discuss the relationship of innovation and regulation in the UK's pharmaceutical and medical devices industries.

At the event, a 'roundtable' on the future of manufacturing will see the participation of key business and technology solutions providers and consultants, including Accenture, Dassault Systemes, Siemens A and D, TXT eSolutions and Microsoft.

The second day will feature parallel sessions with customer testimonials from the CPG, pharmaceutical, utilities and general engineering sectors.

The sessions will examine the four key performance areas of the manufacturing industry - new product development, operations, supply chain, and sales and customer service.

"We are extremely delighted to be hosting this event in London as we recognise the importance that British and European manufacturers represent at a global level.

With this event we are striving to promote the importance of innovation and technology within the manufacturing industry, particularly for the CPG, pharmaceutical, utilities and construction sectors.

Microsoft, together with its partners, will continue to facilitate business solutions, technological development and support for this industry," said Ruediger Dorn, industry lead at Microsoft EMEA for process industry.

The road show, which has already taken place in Munich and in Milan, will continue in Moscow, Russia, later next month and Paris, France, in June.
