A machining system offers unlimited flexibility, optimum productivity and high quality, for work pieces in any material or shape, conforming within a machining envelope of up to 250 x 250 x 250mm.

Swiss machine tool builder, Mikron Machining Technology, announced at EMO 2007 that it had completed its range of automated machining systems with two product lines - Ideo and Namco Mikron said to Manufacturingtalk at the show that it is becoming increasingly necessary to have readily adjustable machining systems to change production quickly and be quickly adaptable to new products

* Machining transfer systems - the current transfer systems range offered by Mikron Machining Technology - Multistar, Multifactor, Multistep and Mikron NRG-50 - now include two new product ranges, Ideo and Namco.

The systems cope with the following.

* Work piece size (up to 250mm3).

* The material to machine (from steel to titanium).

* The lot size requirements (starting from 100 pieces).

* Very high production rate (up to 520 pieces/min).

* Broad range of machining operations (including deep drilling and turning).

** Ideo - the most flexible transfer system - Ideo is recommended for work pieces - in any material or shape - measuring up 250 x 250 x 250mm and offers unlimited flexibility, optimum productivity and outstanding quality.

The Ideo machining concept allows the following operations.

* Produce, in parallel, two different work pieces in lots of different sizes.

* Complete machining of the work piece, by transferring it automatically from one process module to another.

* Produce a work piece and, at the same time, to re-equip the machine for another type of work piece.

* Machining on the six faces of the work piece in one single clamping, using an exclusive clamping system and free rotation of the axes A and B by 360 deg.

These four advantages of the Ideo systems can be achieved with the use of two independent machining modules, each of which is equipped of 5-axis operation.

They are supported by two automatic tool changers with 32 positions.

The accuracy of the Ideo system is assured by its extremely rigid and solid construction, equipped with a reinforced structure in polymer cement, which absorbs vibrations.

The accurate machining performance is assured as well in a thermally variable environment with internal function of thermal compensation.

Ideo uses 33kW machining spindles and has fast automatic tool changers (1.6s).

Mikron Machining Technology offers Ideo as a 'turnkey' system - including tools, CNC programs, customised work clamping and robotised loading/unloading system.

Or it can be offeered as a standard, uncustomised 'stand alone' machine.

** Namco - economic transfer systems - Mikron Machining Technology acquired Namco in Caslano, Switzerland, in mid-July 2007.

Namco products are divided in two types of systems: NAD extremely flexible and NAM extremely productive (up to 120 parts/min).

The main features of Namco products are as follows.

* Pre-working wire or on the bar stock before cutting, including turning.

* Complete machining, such as drilling, threading, milling, turning or broaching.

* Extraordinary performance accuracy.

* Full CNC technology with Bosch Rexroth MTX control.

* High operational flexibility owing to the rapid clamping changeover, and the possibility to produce various parts from one single wire and to unload the finished parts in an automatic sorting basket.

* High productivity with a maximum of 18 CNC machining units working at the same time and double-wire/bar feeding.

* In-process probing and closed-loop control of tooling and machining parameters.

With the Namco transfer systems, Mikron offers highly produc tive systems for, typically, locks, gas equipment, watches, optical industry, medical devices and automotive.

The Ideo and Namco systems are perfectly complementary with the current Mikron transfer system range - Multistar, Multifactor, Multistep and Mikron NRG-50.

They are all supported by professional after-sales assistance from Mikron Service Solutions and from the long-term experience and expertise of Mikron Tool in cutting tools.
