Mills CNC offers machines with Heidenhain controls

A Mills CNC product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Aug 19, 2009

Mills CNC, a UK machine tool company and exclusive distributor of Doosan machine tools in the UK and Ireland, has launched a range of Heidenhain iTNC 530-controlled vertical machining centres.

The machines - the DNM 500 and the DNM 650 - are the latest additions to the Fanuc CNC-controlled range of Doosan DNM vertical machines introduced in the UK by Mills CNC in 2008.

The DNMs are high-performance three-axis VMCs aimed at precision manufacturers operating in the mould tool and die and aerospace sectors and customers manufacturing complex parts in small-to-medium volumes who prefer the functionality and performance capabilities of the Heidenhain control.

Andrew Jack, Mills CNC's technical director, said: 'We estimate the market size, in the UK and Ireland, for new, medium-sized vertical machining centres [Y-axis travel from 500mm to 650mm] with Heidenhain controls is in the region of 130-150 machines per year.

The DNM 500 and 650 machines are equipped with a 17kW 12,000rev/min spindle (BT 40 Big Plus type) and they have a 30-position ATC.

X-, Y- and Z-axis travels differ according to the machine model.

On the DNM 500, these are 1,020mm (X), 540mm (Y) and 510mm (Z).

On the DNM 650, axis travels are 1,270mm (X), 670mm (Y) and 625mm (Z).
