Key interlocks allow access to teach robots
Users of robot cells are being protected by trapped key interlocks that allow for limited access to operate the robots in "teach" mode.
Users of robot cells supplied by Kesan Automation are being protected by trapped key interlocks from Mistura Systems.
The robots are enclosed behind perimeter guarding, and access is strictly controlled.
The modular interlocks mean operators can usually only enter once the power has been switched off, but they also allow for limited access to operate the robots in "teach" mode.
Kesan offers turn-key electro-mechanical packages for materials handling, and is one of the premier suppliers of control system integration in the U.K.
to the automotive and other sectors.
The company uses a combination of electrical and trapped key interlocks to manage access to its robot cells, ensuring worker safety on automated production lines.
The trapped access key can only be released once the robot is deactivated via the key to the control panel.
However, Mistura's unique "building block" approach means there is no limit to the number of functions that can be controlled with its interlocks.
This particular system also offers an alternative "teach" key which allows an operator safe access to the robot while allowing limited operation, in order that the robot can be "taught" its tasks.
Mistura's trapped key interlocks are built for strength and designed to resist tampering and abuse.
Customised systems are readily available and custom engineered solutions suitable for OEM use can easily be supplied.
