Small milling cutters have wide profile
range
Small, profile milling cutters are offered in a wide range of cutting profiles including convex, concave, rounded or angled, straight or spirally toothed or even in complex profiles.
Having always led in the development of special tooling, Mikron Tool SA Agno, Switzerland, showed a range of customised profile milling cutters at EMO 2007 exhibition recently The range covers 5mm to 160mm (outside diameter) at widths of less than 1mm to 20 mm

Profile milling cutters offer unifom quality
Profile milling cutters use logarithmic relief grinding to guarantee a uniform cut quality and identical profile even in case of multiple regrinding.
Small carbide tools drill deeper, faster
A breakthrough in small solid carbide drill technology and development of the cutting process allows 1mm-4mm holes to be drilled up to 15 times diameter in depth at 20 times faster feeds.
Small but powerful - drilling up to 15 x D
Expanded range of internally cooled small drills is capable of advancing 0.07mm/rev with a diameter of 0.8mm and length of 8mm in 100Cr6 alloy steel at a speed of 50m/min.
The diversity of the profiles is unlimited: convex, concave, rounded or angled, straight or spiral-toothed or even a combination of all.
At EMO, Mikron told Manufacturingtalk that every shape is possible, even very complex ones.
The logarithmic relief grinding (constant profile) is a 'big plus', said the company.
Highly recommended for milling, such cutters are subjected to large wear such as in the case of high volume series production.
It guarantees a uniform cut quality and identical profile even in case of multiple regrinding thus increases the cost effectiveness of the tool.
The manufacturing quality is also very striking: Mikron Tool guarantees a tolerance of +/-0.01mm for functional profiles.
The precision can be increased to +/0.005mm to meet special requirements.
The fact that the tolerance here is related not only to the individual teeth, but also to the sum of overall deviations of all teeth, is what makes the quality even more unique said the company.
Mikron said that its cutters are the right tools for those to whom parts precision is particularly important since its uses are as versatile as the shapes themselves.
They give as good a profile to spectacle hinges as to watch parts or parts for the electronics industry to match their purpose.
Customer specific geometrical layouts, combined with the right coating make the cutter suitable for all materials.
The new milling range also covers end mills and is used in a wide range of applications, for example, for the medical and watch industries, for automotive parts, key and lock manufacturing and also for spectacle hinges, electric/electronic parts and fittings.
Special cutters such as micro, prismatic, shaping and T-groove cutters for machining a wide variety of materials complete the product range.
