A proprietary feed screw encapsulation process can double the life of any feed screw manufactured from the standard tool steels or high-wear powder metallurgy materials.

Mark Ruberg, Milacron's director of Aftermarket Services, announced the release of a new proprietary feed screw encapsulation process designated as StarGuard "In response to the customer demand for longer-life feed screws and overall total cost containment, Milacron is pleased to introduce a breakthrough encapsulation process that can double the life of any feed screw manufactured from the standard tool steels or high-wear powder metallurgy materials in the industry today." stated Ruberg

StarGuard is an extension of ServTek's existing 'Star' product line of injection end products and is available for injection molding, extrusion and blow molding machines.

"The feed screw is the most important processing component in plastics processing equipment and can be one of the most expensive to replace when changeover time is factored.

The processor's focus to reduce total costs must include feed screw replacement, which can have a significant impact on the bottom line," stated Ruberg.

StarGuard tungsten or chromium encapsulation provides crack and porosity-free protection.

The entire length of the feed screw is encapsulated, including the root, flight sides and flight lands.

There are several engineered encapsulations available, depending on the plasticizing process.

ServTek application experts are available to assist customers to engineer the correct protection for each specific application.

Encapsulations are available for abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance, high-temperature processing and sub-micron abrasion protection.

ServTek is introducing StarGuard at the Plastec West Show (Anaheim, California - February 13-15,2007) as the west coast of the USA has long been considered one of the most expensive areas to conduct a processing operation.

"This technology allows a processor to achieve significant savings.

Regardless of machine make, model and diameter of screw, StarGuard encapsulation provides improved processing and plasticizing, and the longer the screw is in the machine making parts, the better the productivity," stated Ritch Waterfield, Milacron's Injection End Product manager.

StarGuard is exclusively available from ServTek's "Star" product line of WearStar, KlearStar, MeltStar, PVCStar and the very popular Barr VBET feed screws.

Like other 'Star' products, StarGuard is available on used, rebuilt and competitive feed screws.

StarGuard can be designated by processors on all new OEM equipment on a global basis.

StarGuard comes with a 3-year performance warranty, with details available from Milacron's ServTek operations.

"The growth of Milacron's Aftermarket services to customers continues to expand with the product launch of StarGuard.

This product will compliment the huge global MILACRON machinery base and is available on all makes and models of new or used feed screws and competitive machines.

Milacron will be participating in the upcoming ANTEC and Plastics Encounter Show in May, 2007 in Cincinnati.

Milacron will have technical sessions and demonstrations of all the ServTek injection end products, and selected injection, extrusion and blow molding machinery close by at our facility in Batavia, Ohio," stated Bob Strickley, Milacron's director of marketing.
