Membership of The Metalforming Machinery Makers' Association continues to increase with the announcement that H and L Hydraulic has become the latest member.

Membership of The Metalforming Machinery Makers' Association (MMMA) continues to increase with the announcement that H and L Hydraulic Ltd based in Redditch, Worcestershire has become the latest member H and L Hydraulic is the UK subsidiary of Hartmann and Laemmle GmbH and Co.KG, based in Rutesheim, Germany

The UK company was formed in 1997 and is a leading developer, manufacturer, assembler and tester of hydraulic directional, flow control and pressure valves as well as hydraulic systems and control systems.

The company products are used on a wide range of machine tools including punching, stamping and forming presses.

Membership of MMMA has increased by over a third during the last two years.

The Association acts as the central organisation promoting the common interests of its members involved in the manufacture and sale of metalforming machinery and ancillary products, including tooling in the United Kingdom.

Commenting on the increase in membership and the recent Chancellor's budget Tim Albutt, Chairman of the MMMA said: "We continue to attract new members and this is good for our industry, we become one large collective voice joining other manufacturing associations in harmony, this is good especially after how Chancellor Gordon Brown has not helped manufacturing in his recent budget, in fact it was a very disappointing budget for UK manufacturing.

It was low-key, given in difficult times.

We feel as manufacturers, we are not being given a fair crack of the whip our manufacturing base is being decimated, nothing has happened for a long time so we had low expectations and were not surprised by the results.

We were however, relieved not to be hit by further tax increases.

Gordon Brown continues to ignore the constant lobbying of manufacturers, for measures to help investment.

He did nothing to address rising business costs and the escalating premiums for liability insurance, that all businesses have to endure.

Last year he increased the national insurance contributions we have to make, which was a major blow to manufacturing companies, however, he has offered a review of the definition of R and D tax credits, but it provides little help.

I suggest he could have introduced 100% capital allowance in the first year for SME`s investing in new equipment for example, whilst another anomaly is the 100% capital allowance for new IT equipment, which does not cover computer NC controlled machinery.

Speaking on behalf of my industry, we need more action, not consultation.

The budget has confirmed my conviction that we need to increase the membership of the Association and we are doing so, the stronger we are, the more powerful voice we have in the corridors of Government.

As well as providing a voice to represent manufacturing, we also offer members considerable benefits including 'best space rates' at Metalworking and MACH as well as subsidies at other UK and overseas exhibitions, entry in MMMA handbook and website with direct links to their own sites.".
