Dynamic light scattering techniques at workshop

A Malvern Instruments product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team May 28, 2007

Malcolm Connah, Product Manager for Nanometrics at Malvern Instruments, spoke about Dynamic Light Scattering techniques at a nanotechnology workshop in Oxford, UK.

Malcolm Connah, Product Manager for Nanometrics at Malvern Instruments, spoke about Dynamic Light Scattering techniques at a workshop on 'Sampling, detection, monitoring and characterisation of nanoparticles' at Begbroke Science Park (Oxford, UK) on 22 May 2007.

The workshop was organized by the European Nanotechnology Trade Alliance, the Nanotechnology Safety Network and the Institute of Nanotechnology.

It provided a forum for instrument manufacturers and users to discuss: the parameters of most significance in the environmental and health and safety contexts; the capabilities of particular instrumental techniques; and any requirements in the nanotechnology community that cannot yet be addressed using available technology.

Malvern's Zetasizer Nano is widely used for the characterisation of nano-sized particles, providing particle size, zeta potential and molecular weight measurement in a single system.

It is the method of choice for nano-particle applications from routine colloid size measurements to the investigation of particulates at the leading edge of materials research.

Patented technologies ensure optimum performance for particle size measurement over the range 0.6 to 6000 nm, molecular weight measurement from 1 x 103 to 2 x 107 Daltons and the zeta potential of particles from 5 nm to 10 um.
