Control particle size, measurement and moisture

A Malvern Instruments product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jan 9, 2008

Two companies will be showing the latest developments in particle sizing systems for solids processing and infrared sensors for on-line measurement and control of moisture and composition.

At EasyFairs Solids 2008 (March 11 and 12, 2008, NEC, Birmingham, UK) Malvern Instruments and NDC Infrared Engineering will be displaying particle sizing systems for solids processing and infrared sensors for on-line measurement and control of moisture and composition.

* Particle size analysis - Malvern Instruments will be showing the latest version of its Insitec Voyager is perfectly adapted for mobile particle size analysis within the process environment.

It can be operated at- or on-line providing real-time analysis where and when required.

It is an integral part of Malvern's successful consultancy service, used to demonstrate, in situ, the potential of continuous process analysis.

Built for single person operation, the unit is easily dismantled for transportation and can be assembled without the need for hand tools.

It is simple to connect to the process, easy to clean and has a variety of communications options.

Malvern specialists will be on hand to discuss the company's full range of systems for at-line, on-line and in-line particle size analysis for both wet and dry processes.

* Moisture analyser - NDC Infrared Engineering will be displaying its rugged CM710 moisture analyzer for industrial processes, which has been developed for applications in minerals and chemicals manufacturing to provide real-time moisture values for process control.

CM710 uses non-contacting NIR technology for measurement of product flows on conveyors.

With a variety of enclosures, including IP65, IP67 and ATEX approved systems, as well as cooled enclosures for hotter environments, CM710 can also be fitted to PowderVision sampling devices enabling measurement of product inside pneumatic and gravity-fed ducts.

For off-line applications NDC's latest InfraLab will be displayed.

This rapid analyzer makes a laboratory-accurate moisture analysis in less than ten seconds and requires neither special operator skills nor sample preparation.

The latest version now features on-board data storage of up to 1000 measurement files which can be downloaded via the USB port to a PC.

* About Malvern Instruments - Malvern Instruments is a global company that develops, manufactures and markets advanced analytical systems used in characterizing a wide variety of materials, from bulk powders to the latest nanomaterials and delicate macromolecules.

Innovative technologies and powerful software produce systems that deliver industrially relevant data enabling customers to make the connection between micro (e g, particle size) and macro (bulk) material properties (rheology) and chemical composition (chemical imaging).

Malvern laboratory, on-line and in-line systems are proven in sectors from cement to pharmaceuticals and support the understanding, improvement and optimization of many industrial processes.

Headquartered in Malvern, UK, the company has subsidiary organizations in all major European markets, North America, China, Korea and Japan, key partnerships in India, a global distributor network and a number of applications laboratories around the world.

* About NDC Infrared Engineering - NDC Infrared Engineering leads the field in the design and manufacture of near infrared (NIR) gauging systems for on-line measurement.

The NIR product range includes instruments for monitoring moisture in chemicals, pharmaceuticals and minerals; fat or oil, moisture and protein content in foods; thickness or grammage of sheet and barrier layers in plastic extrusions and co-extrusions; and moisture and coatings on paper and board and many other converted web products.

The company's range of measurement technologies includes infrared, beta, gamma, X-ray and laser.

Products range from bench-top and portable devices for QA checks, to complete on-line scanning system solutions for continuous precision measurement and process control.

The NDC Infrared Engineering portfolio includes a wide range of hardware and software accessories for the sensor and system ranges, and all products are certified to meet the relevant European and US Norms.

NDC Infrared Engineering is based in Maldon, UK in Europe, and Irwindale, California in the USA.

Operations in Germany, France, India, Japan and China provide local support to key markets, and NDC Infrared Engineering is represented in more than 60 countries worldwide by a comprehensive network of specialist distributors.

* Malvern Instruments and NDC Infrared Engineering are members of Spectris plc, the precision instrumentation and controls company.
