Moeller eliminates starter contactos redundancy
Moeller Electric said it has eliminated motor starter contactor redundancy by developing a contactor monitoring device for each contactor.
It combines the function of isolation, motor switching, short-circuit and overload protection, replacing isolator, fuses and overload relay, all in a single unit.
At only 55mm the new PKZM4 is the industry's slimmest switch for 63A operation thus saving valuable space in the control panel.
As with all members of the PKZM family, it employs a rotary handle giving clear and immediate indication of ON/OFF positions even from a distance.
By having this clear indication of the switching status all PKZMs comply as switch disconnectors in accordance with IEC947-2/3 and IEC204-1.
Its lockable rotary handle and door coupling handle options enable the motor-protective circuit-breakers to be locked in the off position for extra safety.
The PKZM4 uses the same range of simple plug-in accessories - voltage releases and auxiliary contact modules - as the PKZM0 to enable the unit to be closely tailored to any customer requirements.
The auxiliary modules can be fitted without any tools and provide fail-safe information about each switching state: ON or OFF, overload or short circuit.
Using the same accessories across the two sizes means that stock holding is greatly reduced.
Other accessories include surface mounting enclosures with rotary handles rated at IP55 degree of protection and three-phase commoning links.
Meeting the requirements of IEC/EN 60947-4-1, the new PKZM4 reliably handles high short-circuit currents up to Iu = 63A and Iq = 50kA, and does so without the aid of an upstream protective device.
The fuseless PKZM4's modular design allows engineers to quickly and easily select and construct complete co-ordinated direct-on-line starters rated from 5.5kW to 34kW AC3, 415V.
Two versions are available to meet type 1 or type 2 co-ordination.
When using the PKZM4/DILM combination all the designer has to do is choose from a comprehensive yet simple to use selection chart in the Main Catalogue: whether type 1 or type 2 co-ordination is required, the PKZM4 device rated for the size of motor.
For the PKZM4 device chosen the chart gives the type of DILM contactor needed.
