A stepper- motor drive that is interchangeable with drives from other manufacturers is suited to upgrades and retrofits as it can be used when existing motors are being retained.

Motor Technology has added to its range of stepper-motor drives to include a new unit that is interchangeable with drives from other manufacturers.

It is perfectly suited to upgrades and retrofits as it can be used when existing motors are being retained.

Its inbuilt flexibility enables it to replace old equipment operating on 20 to 80V DC with current ratings of up to 8A.

The new WSE-DC, manufactured by Stogra, is a single unit that is suitable for a power range that would usually require five or six different drives.

The unit is a micro-stepping drive with 16 different step angles from 200 to 12,800 steps per revolution.

The step angle can be switched between two user-selectable values whilst the motor is running which allows very smooth operation at low speed and fast traverse speeds.

The high efficiency of the WSE-DC allows operation without external cooling and is therefore perfectly suited to applications where forced cooling is undesirable or impractical.

It is also extremely compact, measuring just 105 x 57.5 x 116mm and will fit into 200mm control cabinets.

Power connections can be made via front side screw terminals with all signal connections made via spring terminals.
