Ceramic servo motors offer more accuracy
A novel 'ceramic servo motor' range - in terms of pricing - is at the same level as a microstepping drive package but has greater accuracy without any rotary screw drive parts.
Ceramic servo motors compared with piezo types
Use of piezo technology in motion and positioning control solutions is not new but the technique employed in these ceramic servo motors is said to be innovative and original.
With this servo motor, even the self-cooled version has an overload withstand capability of four times the standstill torque M0 throughout the speed range which goes up to a useful 6000 rpm.
In field weakening mode, it can be additionally expanded with inverters of the Sinamics S120 series.
Productivity is therefore increased as machines can now be used over an expanded load range.
With the requirement for less downtime the service life of the encoder is also significantly increased thanks to a newly developed coupling which protects the incremental encoders against shock loads on the motor shaft.
The cross profile of the new motors also enables simple installation even from the rear, whilst a rotatable, fast locking connector simplifies connection and cable laying in all installation positions.
This helps reduce both installation as well as service times.
Compared to its predecessor the successful series 1FT6, the length of the 1FT7 has been reduced by one third.
However, both models are compatible with regard to installation, connections and characteristic curves so there is no problem in replacing the predecessor model with the 1FT7.
The motors are permanent magnet synchronous motors, a visually attractive design whose their tried and tested cross profile has true running and positional accuracy technology.
On account of having minimal ripple and torque oscillations they can achieve the highest surface quality on the work-piece.
They are optimised for use in the Siemens fully digital drive and control systems.
This first generation of 1FT7s are self-cooled motors with shaft heights ranging from 48 to 100mm, they have a rated speed of 1500 to 6000 rpm, rated power of 0.85kW to 10.5kW and static torque 3 to 70Nm Typical fields of application are high-performance motion control and positioning for production machines such as packaging machines, textile machines, foil drawing plants and printing presses; also in material handling, manipulating devices and feed drives in high-performance machine tools.
