High speed wire/rod mill operates up to 105m/sec

High-speed mill to be added to Anon's existing bar mill will be capable of producing rod at 105 meters per second and 90 metric tons per hour for the production of wire rod and rebar.

Morgan Construction Company has received a contract from Sider£rgica Anon, SA of La Coruna, Spain, to design and build a new single-strand rod outlet.

Steve Briggs, Sales Director, Morgan-Europe, Morgan's European subsidiary, who announced the contract, said, "The high-speed mill, which is to be added to Anon's existing bar mill, will be capable of producing rod at 105 meters per second and 90 metric tons per hour for the production of wire rod and rebar.

"As part of the contract," he continued, "Morgan will supply the Spanish mill with an eight-stand heavy reduction capacity No Twist Mill incorporating enhancements to the drive arrangement to facilitate ease of maintenance, increase functionality and machine life." The mill will be equipped with the company's HYQST tempered martensite process for producing rebar in coil from 5.0 mm and comprising water boxes with split type opening nozzles, intermediate pinch rolls and Morgan Enhanced Temperature Control System (METCS).

In addition, the mill will have a high-speed laying head with Morgan patented tail end control, a seven-zone Stelmor? Controlled Cooling System, a reform station incorporating the company's patented Ring Distributor System and the latest modular horizontal coil handling system with high speed wire binding compactor.

Morgan will also supply the automation for the coil handling and compactor.

Briggs added that commissioning of the finished equipment is expected early in 2004.
