Upgrade to bring India its fastest steel bar mill
An order to upgrade a single-strand bar mill will result in the client having the fastest mill in India producing low to high carbon, low alloy, free cutting and cold heading quality steel bar.
Morgan Construction Company has received a contract from Southern Iron and Steel Company, (SISCOL), of Pottaneri, Macheri, Salem-District, India, to upgrade the company's steel mill.
Ashok Jain, General Manager of Morgan-India, a Morgan subsidiary headquartered in Mumbai, India, noted, "Morgan will be responsible for the design, construction, and installation supervision of a new rod outlet that will be added to the company's single-strand bar mill".
""The new rod outlet," he explained, "Will produce low-to-high-carbon, low alloy, free cutting and cold heading quality wire rod of 5.5 -16.5mm in size at 105m/s and will be the fastest mill in India.
Annually, the mill will produce 250,000 tonnes of wire rod from this new line, in addition to the existing 250,000 tonnes of bar/bar-in-coil products." Jain said that equipment to be provided as part of the contract includes a crop and divide shear, a No-Twist Mill, water boxes with a Morgan Enhanced Temperature Control System (METCS), pinch roll, laying head, Stelmor conveyor, reform equipment and coil transfer car".
""The mill," he pointed out, "Will be designed at Morgan's Worcester headquarters, with equipment produced at the several of the company's worldwide manufacturing facilities.
The expected delivery date is February 2006.
SISCOL was recently acquired by Jindal South West (JSW), part of the Jindal Group of companies, which owns both flat and rod steel producing companies near Bellary and Mumbai, India.
Combined, these mills and other facilities of the Jindal Group produce 5 million tonnes of steel annually.
With this upgrade, and other expansion plans, the company intends to increase SISCOL's production to one million tonnes per year.
Morgan Construction Company is a designer and producer of high-quality rolling mill products and services for the metal industry worldwide.
