Morgan Construction has received a contract from Belgo Mineira for a speed-up of its two-strand TL0l mill in Joćo Monlevade, Brasil.

Ricardo Cruz, business manager of Morgan do Brasil, in announcing the contract, said, "The contract, which calls for the mill's speed to be increased by 10 percent, includes engineering and installation of several pieces of new equipment for both strands.

"Equipment being added," he continued, "includes gear boxes, repeaters with troughs, mini-blocks, modifications to the StelmorÓ cooling conveyor, fluids systems, electric equipment, and mill automation." He added, "The mechanical equipment will be manufactured in facilities in both the USA and Brazil, while the design and engineering work is being performed at the company's Worcester, Mass., headquarters." Originally built and installed in the early 1960s, the mill has since undergone several modifications and upgrades.

The mill, which produces carbon steel rod in size ranges of 5.5mm to 16mm diameter, when upgraded, will operate at 90 meters per second.
