Microsoft Dynamics Selected to Anchor Multimillion-Dollar IT Investment for Microwave Technology Firm Herley Industries

Microsoft has announced that Herley Industries of Lancaster, Pa, through the services of mcaConnect LLC, has selected Microsoft Dynamics AX to serve as the primary technology at the centre of a multimillion-dollar overhaul of the manufacturer's financial, accounting and supply chain information technology (IT) systems Beginning in January 2006, Herley leadership conducted a 15-point evaluation process that included extensive reviews of alternative systems before making its selection

Herley Industries develops and manufactures microwave technology for the defence, aerospace and medical industries through nine locations worldwide.

In recent years, the company has made a number of acquisitions to expand its business interests, but each company acquired uses a different IT system that is incompatible with Herley's current systems.

The new Microsoft Dynamics AX system implementation will bring all of Herley's financial and operational data onto a single IT platform, providing management with access to real-time reporting information in a security-enhanced, roles-based environment that will limit employee access to potentially sensitive information.

"Requirements and procedures have changed significantly in the past few years, so the ability to assemble a holistic view of our organisation in a secure fashion through the Microsoft Dynamics AX functionality will be a substantial asset to our self-governance objectives," said Charles Pourciau, director of administration and governance for Herley Industries.

"Herley's ability to provide cost estimates and respond to bids will benefit significantly from a system that can provide real-time data from across our entire enterprise".

mcaConnect, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner specialising in Microsoft Dynamics AX implementations, will apply a lean enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation methodology to enable a rapid deployment of the system that also includes SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Office 2003 and SharePoint Portal Server components to enable integration and collaboration throughout Herley's operation.

"We view this investment as a significant step toward our long-term strategic goals".

"The Microsoft solution will become a valuable tool to our people for standardising processes and will scale as we grow our business by creating a more productive and efficient operation," said John Kelley, president of Herley Industries.

"The ability to align our manufacturing and purchasing operations will allow us to control our costs related to inventory, while at the same time providing better customer service through on-time delivery of customer orders - that's just the tip of the iceberg in terms of benefits".

When complete, hundreds of Herley's employees will enter and receive information from the Microsoft-based system, keeping Herley management apprised of project progress and enabling them to more accurately forecast business needs.

In addition, seamless integration between Microsoft Office and the Microsoft Dynamics AX system will simplify the user experience, accelerating adoption by Herley staff, enabling consistency in the management of business processes and supporting compliance to corporate policy.
