High performance reamers are getting
smaller
High performance reamers are now available in small diameters either as solid carbide or solid Cermet tools to produce precision bores economically and can be coated on request.

Form milling cutters offer 30% time saving
Wear-resistant PCBN form milling cutters produce such high surface qualities that the time spent for final manual polishing can be reduced by 30 to 50%.
Tool clamping cartridges fit minimal lubrication
To put minimal lubrication quantity technology into practice, many institutes and research groups have dealt with specific questions and solutions, but a tool supplier claims to show the way.
It is with this that Mapal meets customer requirements to produce precision bores economically and without the cost of setting.
With HPR series 120 and 121 Mapal has now extended the range of available diameters downwards.
In standard versions these reamers are supplied in diameters of 1.4 - 6.99mm either a solid carbide or solid Cermet tools and can be coated on request.
Tools from the HPR 120 series are straight fluted and suitable for both blind bores and through holes.
The HPR 121 series with L.H.
flutes is particular suitable for tools designed for through holes.
The precision ground reamers are held in specially developed thermal expanding chucks with an HFS connection.
This means that series HPR 120 and 121 can be held in any holders of HFS size 12 thus producing an extremely high repeatable accuracy and concentricity.
One particular advantage is the use of the new radial clamping system.
This allows clamping and release to be carried out in seconds from one side.
With the new HPR 120 and 121 series the holder can now also remain on the machine when the tool is changed, which makes handling even easier.
The first applications underline the efficiency of the new series.
A location hole 8mm deep and diameter of 5.0 D8 was to be applied to an engine block in GG 25.
Using a coated carbide HPR 120 reamer a tool life of an average of 15,000 bores was obtained at a feed speed of Vf = 640 mm/min.
This proves that the HPR 120 and 121 series are high value members of the HPR system.
Based on Mapal's many years of experience in the area of precision machining, precision ground and with only a single holder size for tool 1.4 - 21.29mm diameter, the HPR reamers produce high performance results - whether they are small or large.
