Following the success of the four German metals shows - GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST - the organisers announced that NEWCAST will in future include forging and sintering.

Energy efficiency is a growing concern among Western metals producing, foundry and thermal treatment plants, which is why the latest energy saving systems were topics at four leading German shows Also the growth in interest in more innovation in foundry technology has inspired Messe Duesseldorf to run NEWCAST every two years instead of four

In Duesseldorf, Germany, Messe Duesseldorf organised GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST exhibitions, which drew 77,000 international visitors - a rise of 8% compared with the last quartet of shows in 2003.

Of these, non-German visitors accounted for 50%.

The organiser commissioned a survey, which revealed that more than two-thirds of visitors were influential decision-making executives.

It meant that many visitors could expect good 'follow-up' business.

As board member of SMS Demag and chairman of the METEC show advisory board commented: "The current 'boom' in this industry has 'blessed' us with a very good exhibition that we are sure to benefit from for some time, especially in terms of international contacts." The four exhibitions were as follows.

* GIFA - International Foundry Trade Fair with a technical forum.

* METEC - International Metallurgical Technology Fair with associated congress.

* THERMPROCESS - International Trade Fair and Symposium for Thermal process Engineering.

* NEWCAST - International castings Trade fair.

One development of interest to foundry owners is that the NEWCAST exhibition will now run every two years instead of four, so the next show will be in 2009.

Messe Duesseldorf said the decision to run NEWCAST every two years was based on the positive response from visitors and the growing pressure on foundry equipment manufacturers to innovate.

All four shows will appear in 2011.

* NEWCAST to include forging and sintering - the next NEWCAST show, June 23-25, 2009, will include manufacturers of equipment and services for forging and sintering.

Forging and sintering will be in a new 'NEWPART Innovation Parc'.

The fourth NEWCAST Forum will run in parallel with seminars and congresses.

Also messe Duesseldorf will bring in the 'Metals Plaza' to the Innovation Parc and will cover all steel and non-ferrous metals producers, traders and logistics companies.
