Manual coordinate measuring arm is
lightweight

A highly accurate, portable, manual coordinate measuring arm can be put to work just as easily in the metrology laboratory as on the shop floor.

Metris has introduced its MCA (Manual Coordinate measuring Arm), which is a highly accurate and easy to handle measurement arm Lightweight components and innovative design enable the Metris MCA to be put to work just as easily in the metrology laboratory as on the shop floor

The manual coordinate measuring arm can be equipped with a variety of touch trigger and laser scanning probes.

The ergonomic design and on-site calibration capability of Metris MCA consistently keep measurement up-time at maximum level, said the company.

The Metris MCA arm isavailable in two variants, as follows.

1 - M6 (Metrology 6-axis) variants provide superior accuracy for true metrology applications.

2 - The I6 (Industrial 6-axis) variants are suited for all-purpose 3D inspection and reverse engineering applications.

Metris said, in a report to manufacturingtalk.com, the unique calibration method and algorithm as well as new encoder technology ensure highest measurement accuracy in its class.

Metris MCA's on-site calibration capability eliminates the need to send the arm back to the factory, guaranteeing minimum interruption and maximum productivity.

In addition, the lightweight Metris MCA has optimised tube length ratios and is equipped with a spring operated counter balance and an electromagnetic brake to guarantee effortless operation.

With temperature compensation between 5 and 40 deg C and optional true wireless touch probe operation using internal battery and WiFi data communication, users can set up and use the Metris MCA almost everywhere, said Metris.

The Metris MCA is compatible with both touch probes and laser scanners, and it supports quick and repeatable exchange among these sensors.

Metris' patented floating probe for touch trigger and continuous scanning measurements provides highly accurate and repeatable results.

For laser scanning applications, the Metris MCA / ModelMaker D combination accelerates part-to-CAD comparison, 3D inspection and reverse engineering.

The MCA is based on Metris IP acquired from Tomelleri and Raffaele Tomelleri, which is one of the earliest IP protected prior art in the articulated arm business.

Garda, as a Metris group company, will continue to develop and support its existing Garda articulated arms for specific Garda customers such as OEM relations, independently from and in parallel with the Metris MCA.
