Macro Sensors has developed a range of contact-free, DC-operated rotary position sensors which can measure angular displacement of rotating elements up to 120 deg.

Macro Sensors' series of contactless, fractional-turn, rotary position sensors provide an absolute output proportional to shaft rotation over a total range of up 120 deg The company said that its RSE 1500 Series Rotary RVDT Position Sensors are ideal for measuring the angular displacement of rotating elements such as quarter-turn ball and butterfly valves, air flow dampers and diverter gates used in packaging machinery

Marco Sensors added that the RSE 1500s can be used in other limited rotation applications requiring high reliability.

These would include pedal position sensing for mobile equipment such as lift trucks, stackers, or throttle lever position sensing in cranes.

Although their shafts can rotate a full 360 deg, the RSE 1500 Series Rotary RVDT Position Sensors measure shaft angle position over a nominal range of 120 deg.

Units can operate in 0 deg to 30 deg, 60 deg, 90 deg, or 120 deg rotation ranges.

Macro Sensors told manufacturingtalk that contactless inductive technology enables these rotary position positions to offer high accuracy and repeatability with exceptional reliability.

Units exhibit a linearity error of less than 0.10% of full range output while operating over temperatures from 0 deg F to 185 deg F (-20 deg C to 85 deg C).

The RSE 1500 Series Rotary RVDT Position Sensors utilize built-in electronics to offer a DC input/output configuration.

Operating from a nominal 24V DC power supply, units supply a true 0-to-10V DC output.

The absolute output characteristic makes the RSE 1500 Series superior to incremental output sensors like optical encoders that lose their position information in the event of a power failure.

Built for long life, units are enclosed in a 1.1/2in diameter anodised aluminum shell and have a 0.250in stainless steel shaft running in high performance ball bearings.

The aluminum-mounting flange has a 0.750in diameter center pilot for locating centrally in a fixture.

Units are also environmentally sealed to IEC IP-66.

* About Macro Sensors - Macro Sensors' extensive line of LVDT-based linear and rotary sensors are used for linear position measurement and feedback in a variety of industrial applications including factory automation and motion control systems, as well as for valve position sensing in steam turbine power plants.

Incorporated in 1994, the Company offers more than 400 years of cumulative LVDT design and manufacturing experience by its key staff in serving its OEM and end-user international customer base.

In June, 2005, Macro Sensors was acquired by AST, a manufacturer of state-of-the-art MEMS-based pressure sensors, transducers, and transmitters.

AST sensor products are used in industrial OEM products, hydraulic systems, fuel cells, medical gas test systems, HVAC/R, oil and gas exploration/production, and off-road vehicles.
