The Edge Finder tool is the newest addition to the MIL package, and is a powerful tool for feature extraction and analysis.
"The Edge Finder is a simple, feature-based locator tool".
"Search criteria can include or exclude features based on length, compactness, bounding box size, or inter-relationship criteria, such as basic shapes that lie within other edges," says Stephane Baldo, MIL Processing Software Leader.
The Edge Finder can be used in applications as varied as defect detection, finding objects with significant deformity or finding simple shapes very quickly.
Once extracted, edges can be measured, analysed and sorted in a manner that is independent or dependent on one another.
The Edge Finder can also be used as a plug-in for the Geometric Model Finder; Edge Finder results can be used to define a model instead of a new image.
"The user can also fine-tune the feature extraction of the model and the target image independently of one another," adds Baldo.
Reversely, GMF results can be extracted by the Edge Finder for further analysis.
These capabilities are particularly useful in situations with variable lighting or noise.
MIL 7.5 also includes many enhancements to the Optical Character Recognition module.
Now faster and more robust, the OCR module features an interactive Windows utility for font definition and experimentation.
The module also includes a string locator, supports reading proportional fonts, and can read blank characters, or multiple strings or lines at once.
In addition, the OCR module now supports OCRA, OCRB and MICR fonts. Request a free brochure from Matrox Imaging ...
