CMM software modifies programs automatically

CMM software computes correction values from SPC analysis and feeds the data back to the machine tool's NC program so that the required adjustments to the machining process are automatically made.

The demand for high speed machining processes, total quality and the need to be flexible in design and manufacturing operations is making the achievement of zero defects increasingly difficult.

Mitutoyo's new Correct Plus software for CMMs is designed to address this situation.

It computes correction values from SPC analysis of machined components and feeds the data back to the machine tool's NC program so that the required adjustments to the machining process are automatically made.

Zero defects manufacture can therefore become a reality with the inherent benefits of reduced scrap, reduced resetting times and improved process accuracy.

Correct Plus can be fitted to any Mitutoyo CMM using their Geopak-Win software, which is used to measure parts made by a machine tool.

Once the part is machined, it can be measured by the CMM software.

Correct Plus runs in real-time alongside Geopak-Win, constantly monitoring process accuracy by comparing measured data generated by the CMM's inspection routine with nominal data for the part.

The error corrections required for any out of control limit results are instantly computed by Correct Plus and fed back to the NC program of the machine tool so that the next component is machined within these limits.

Measurement results generated by Correct Plus can typically be shown as histograms and process charts to give the operator an instant snapshot of the state of the machining process.

The data fed back to the NC program of the machine tool can include corrections such as coordinate system changes, tool datum changes and tool length variations which will all enable the machining process to remain centred within design tolerances.

The automatic feedback of data provided by Correct Plus means that constant analysis of data measured by the CMM is not required and so the operator is freed up for other work.

As measurement results do not have to be analysed, no recalculation of machining settings is needed and no reprogramming of the NC control is required either - it is all taken care of automatically.

Correct Plus is available as fully customised CMM software which can be configured to suit almost any machine tool and NC program.

Available as a stand alone CMM software package, Correct Plus can also be use in conjunction with Mitutoyo's entire range of precision measuring instruments as part of a complete gauging solution designed by Mitutoyo's Gauging Technology Division.

These solutions can include turnkey gauging systems that can be fully integrated into production lines and automatically convey components between machine tools and a CMM as a closed loop system.

When used in conjunction with Gauging Technology's capability, Correct Plus can be used to produce complete error feedback systems when measuring products as diverse as beverage bottles and uranium pellets.
