Architectural Woodwork and Design has become the first Irish woodworking company to buy the new Masterwood Project 523 CNC machining centre.

Owner Brian Barry said one of the many reasons for buying the machining centre, the company's first, was that the operating software was tailor-made by Masterwood.
"We had been looking at taking the CNC route for some time and had talked to several manufacturers.
What impressed me about Masterwood is that it is the only company whose software is totally geared up to cope with Irish manufacturing methods." The Project 523 has a 5.2m long bed, with 1720mm in the Y axis and 431mm in the X axis.
It was supplied with Masterwood's purpose-designed Master Stair CAD/CAM software, featuring a cut string capability.
The specialist software substantially speeds up the production of both straight and conventional winder flights.
Brian Barry also intends to use it to machine doors, including cutting out all the hinges and locks, and external door frames.
He said: "I decided on the Masterwood after visiting the company's factory in Italy and seeing demonstrations of the machines and the software.
It will replace several pieces of traditional joinery equipment and should give us greatly improved accuracy and much faster production times.
"My aim is to increase our output without the need to take on any more staff.
This will allow us to cut down on manufacturing costs and make the business far more profitable." The Project 523, complete with the special Zuani tooling, was sold by Masterwood's Ireland agent, High-Tech Machinery .
Training and installation were carried out by technicians from Masterwood (UK) .
